Selfcare Brew (or: The Day Cocoa Lied to Me)

One evening, I made myself a perfectly respectable mug of cocoa. Not a super fancy cocoa. Just cozy. Predictable. Trustworthy.

I took a sip.

And my brain went,“…why does this taste festive?”

Before my eyes could catch up, my tongue already knew. Mint. Unexpected. Bold.

Uninvited—but not unwelcome.

I looked down into the mug and there it was:a tiny candy cane,

slowly dissolving like it had secrets.

My husband had dropped it in without a word. No announcement. No warning. Just… a surprise for my desire.

And I smiled as I thought about how to get him back.

Because here’s the thing:I would never have chosen mint cocoa on purpose.

But that sip? That sneaky, delicious plot twist? It woke something up.

Not just my taste buds—my curiosity. My playfulness. My willingness to be surprised.

That mug became a reminder:

Sometimes desire doesn’t arrive with a grand declaration. Sometimes it shows up disguised as cocoa and says,“Trust me. Just sip.”

And that’s what the Desire Sip Ritual is really about. Selfcare that is relational

Not forcing yourself to want something new. Not performing desire. Just slowing down enough to notice when something delightful sneaks in.

Because desire isn’t always loud.

Sometimes it tastes like festive mint before you know what hit you.
